Northwest Health's Blow Away Breast Cancer Rallies Commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Throughout October, Northwest Health hospitals hosted “Blow Away Breast Cancer,” rallies to commemorate breast cancer awareness month in the Porter, La Porte and Starke Counties and to celebrate and honor those who have been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis.

Each event kicked off with thanking the many employees and community members for coming together to support breast cancer awareness.

During breast cancer awareness month in October, the hospitals renew their focus on the fight against breast cancer. The Blow Away Breast Cancer event is one opportunity to remind women of the importance of an annual screening mammogram and a time to honor all women affected by breast cancer. Statistics show that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Fortunately, health care organizations have done much to raise awareness about the need for early detection and medical advances are helping more women to survive.

Local breast cancer survivors shared their journeys and a breast cancer awareness proclamation was read at each rally. All attendees were invited to “plant” a pink pinwheel in the ground to symbolize the efforts to “blow away” breast cancer during the month of October and into the future.
