Northwest Health – Porter has announced the appointment of Dan Doherty, FACHE, as its new chief executive officer, effective October 27, 2025.
Doherty will oversee daily operations and lead the hospital’s focus on delivering quality patient care, a supportive and empowered team environment, and strategic growth initiatives.
Doherty has nearly 20 years of leadership in healthcare systems across Chicago and Wisconsin. Most recently, he served as president and CEO of Ascension Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Chicago. The hospital was recognized as a Healthgrades Top 50 hospital, earned a Leapfrog A for patient safety and CMS 5-star rating for quality during his tenure.
Earlier in his career, Doherty held several executive leadership roles with hospitals in the Advocate Health system where he expanded services, grew key service lines, and made it a priority to ensure employees had the tools, support and recognition they needed to deliver excellent care.
“Dan is a collaborative and mission-driven leader who believes that great hospitals are built through people,” said Karen Allen, R.N., Ph.D., FAAN, chair of the Northwest Health – Porter board of trustees. “His approach aligns perfectly with our commitment to supporting our teams and continuing to elevate the care experience for our patients and community.”
Doherty earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Notre Dame and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also has certifications in artificial intelligence in health care from MIT and project management from the Harvard School of Public Health.
With Doherty’s arrival, Dr. Thomas Rohs will return to full time duties as chief medical officer.
