Heart Month Activities Span Two Counties and Several Neighborhoods

La Porte, Starke counties, Ind. – With February as National Heart Month, La Porte Hospital Wellness Outreach and La Porte Physician Network offices – including cardiologists – are offering free blood pressure screenings and education on unique heart topics throughout La Porte and Starke counties.
Free blood pressure screenings will be available at the following times and locations throughout February:
- 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., every Thursday at the Heart & Vascular Center, 1st floor, 901 Lincolnway, La Porte
- 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. every Friday at La Porte Physician Network Cardiology Care, 901 Lincolnway, Suites 302 and 310, La Porte
- 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. every Friday at La Porte Physician Network Cardiology Care, 104 E. Culver Road, Suite 105, Knox.
Dr. Rishi Sukhija, an interventional cardiologist with La Porte Physician Network, will be the featured speaker at the free WomenHeart Support Group for an “Ask the Cardiology” evening at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 13 at the Heart & Vascular Center Conference Room, 901 Lincolnway, La Porte. Dr. Sukhija has an interesting connection with WomenHeart leader Sue Chlebek; he helped save her life. He and Chlebek will be on hand to answer questions and network with attendees. The La Porte Hospital Mobile Health Unit, made possible by funding from the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte, will visit multiple neighborhoods to educate on two topics that most people think aren’t even related: dental health and heart disease. Some recent studies have shown a link between moderate or advanced gum disease and heart disease risk, as well as a link between inflammation caused by oral bacteria and clogged arteries and stroke.
