Northwest Health Offers Free Wellness Program: Optimal Health & Prediabetes
10/20/2022
The prevalence of prediabetes, a health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes, is increasing worldwide. Actually, more than 96 million American adults— that’s more than 1 in 3 adults —have prediabetes, which puts them at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke – yet 80 percent don’t even know they have it.*
To help the community learn more about the serious risks of prediabetes and how to identify the condition early on to help them avoid the onset of type 2 diabetes, Northwest Health – La Porte will present Optimal Health & Prediabetes from 11 a.m. to Noon on Monday, Nov. 14, at the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte, 140 E. Shore Parkway in La Porte.
During this free presentation, diabetes nurse clinical educator, Clarise Largen, BSN, R.N., CDCES, LDE, will share current facts about prediabetes and the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.
“Our goal is to help attendees identify their risk for diabetes and leave with a good understanding of insulin resistance and how to manage it,” said Largen. “Those who have been diagnosed with prediabetes, or individuals wanting to prevent prediabetes, will learn steps to manage their condition with lifestyle changes and proper monitoring.”
